The format will include discussion groups, workshops, a special guest speaker, and an awards ceremony for outstanding work in Advancing Racial Justice. Topics include Alternatives to Violence Workshops, faith based perspectives on anti-racism, and includes breakout sessions on Media Anti-Bias, Advocating for Racial Justice, Anti-Racism through the Arts, Facilitating dialogue, Social Media, Coalition Building, Anti-Racism through Direct Services, and Critical Anti-Islamophobia Activism. By creating an engaging and interactive format, this conference sets out to create a space where today’s leaders can advance their work in bringing about racial equity. This event is co-sponsored by Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative, Bayan Islamic Graduate School, ILM Foundation, CAIR-LA, Muslim Women’s Council, and Claremont School of Theology Muslim Seekers. Workshop materials and lunch will be provided. People of all faiths and backgrounds welcome and encouraged to attend.
Aims:
- Participants will have an overview of Anti-Racism principles and practices
- Participants will learn skills of communication and conflict resolution through AVP workshop
- Participants will gain skills in one of the following topics (combating bias in media, facilitating difficult discussions, anti-racism through art, creating engaging social media content)
- Participants will network and develop collaborative anti-racism strategies that can be implemented with service providers and advocacy organizations to advance racial justice
